You Say You Want A Revolution…

In July 1966 C-FUN was getting heavy competition from crosstown Top 40 rival CKLG. As Program Manager of C-FUN I had to come up with an “edge” so we created The C-FUN Revolution. First we papered the town with these flyers stating that the Revolution was on its way:

The formal announcements leading up to the Revolution and the subsequent programming were read by legendary newsman Chuck Boland from KJR/Seattle. His voice gave authority to the project.

We followed with three days of commercial free radio. Over the first phase of the Revolution we featured 14 hours and 10 minutes of instrumental recordings. All this concluded July 4th with the presentation of our new sound stressing “more music… more often”.

The promotion caught the attention of the whole city. The Vancouver Sun thought we were going to change format. We had achieved our objective of getting attention to our frequency like never before. The ratings were great and placed us back in the number one position.

I will never forget Radio Free Funland! With the hard work of our dedicated C-FUN staff we were able to pull it off. Oh, what fun we had… when radio was truly creative.
