Revolver Rocks The PNE On A Historic Night

A lot of planning went into the Revolver tribute to the Beatles on the 50th anniversary of their Empire Stadium concert. Carole deserves all the credit. She organized it all with the help of Revolver manager Bill Allman.

A healthy round of applause greeted the “Beatles” parade to kick off the show. It began with an authentic group of actors in vintage police uniforms walking behind a historic motorbike to give the feeling of the excitement of so many years ago.

My friend Stirling Faux, morning man on C-ISL 650 introduced me and helped me out during intermission.

The show was broken into two parts, the early years and the Sergeant Pepper years. The crowd of 5000 to 6000 stayed until 10:30 pm. People were singing along with the band throughout the evening.

It was an honour for me to emcee this show as I had emceed the original back in 1964. My friend and American counterpart Pat O’Day did a similar show at the Seattle Center on the Saturday night. The Beatles played Seattle the night before Vancouver in 1964.

It was one of the most memorable nights in recent history. Thanks to the Vancouver media for their overwhelming support.
