Red Around Town, October 2015

Early in my career I had the pleasure of meeting Jerri Adams. The two of us were followed around to various venues by a major U.S. publication: Coronet magazine featured a four page spread of her visit to our town. This photo is featured in Douglas Westfall‘s new book 30 Days With Nat King Cole (The story of how Jazz changed America):

I was invited to attend the grand opening of Vancouver’s newest FM, Roundhouse Radio. CEO Don Shafer (below) was on hand with a stellar line up of local celebrities, their new on-air staff, politicians and other dignitaries.

The sound is a combination of CBC Radio and National Public Radio in the U.S. but aimed at the city of Vancouver. Try it at 98.3 on the FM dial or online at roundhouseradio.com. We wish Don and his staff much luck on this new station.

Carole and I were on hand for the opening night of Red Rock Diner at the Surrey Arts Centre. Playwright Dean Regan and date Dinah Christie were in attendance as well. The show runs until October 24 in Surrey and then hits the road. For the full tour schedule and tickets visit redrockdiner.com.

Just saw this incredible shot of KISN Radio‘s street level studios in downtown Portland. KISN was a landmark Top 40 station. My deejay friend Tom Murphy worked there as well as did The Real Don Steele and others… Almost 100 Vancouver radio professionals will gather for another RPM homecoming on Tuesday October 20. Rafe Mair will be there with copies of his new book… Old friend Les Vogt presents Class Of ’59,  a great concert touring B.C. in November. You’ll hear the music of Buddy Holly, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and others. This is a special show because the singers representing these icons are great professionals. Take it in. You are in for a treat…
