Adam Lambert at the “Red”

It was a pleasure being backstage and on stage with Adam Lambert during his recent appearance at the Red Robinson Show Theatre. He is  a most affable young performer who believes in giving an audience what they came to see and add a little glamour to boot. We talked about the years of glam rock and he says he believes it is back with people like himself and Lady Gaga. It is reminiscent of David Bowie, Adam Ant and Elton John of yore. This was only his second solo appearance as he just finished his first appearance at a casino in Florida. You could tell that he and the band were working out the kinks but his fans did not seem to mind. Some flew in from Tokyo and Russia to see him. I predict more hits in the future.

A month ago I took time to talk with Herb Alpert and his wife Lani Hall at the Capilano University Performing Arts Theatre. Herb is a legend having owned one of the most successful record companies in history and signing the likes of Bryan Adams, the Tijuana Brass, the Carpenters and a seemingly endless list of successful artists. A&M Records grew artists: Herb had the best ears in the business and could spot  talent instantly.

Today it is not the Tijuana Brass, it is a small jazz combo headed up by Herb on trumpet and Lani doing the vocals.  A most entertaining evening… and oh yeah, he still has the chops.

Bruce Allen made it possible for me to take Carole and my daughter Kellie to see Michael Bublé at the Rose Garden in Portland. Kellie lives in Portland and loves it as I did for the few years I worked for KGW Radio & TV. Kellie brought along her friend and the two were awestruck meeting Michael backstage on a personal level as there was no Meet and Greet.

Michael filled the auditorium and his stage presence only gets better. The production values of the show are outstanding. You are in for a treat if you have tickets for his show when it hits Vancouver this summer. Michael is currently on a 40 city  tour.

For a change we decided to drive down and back and it was easy going down but coming back on Easter Monday (which is not celebrated in the US) was a nightmare. But you know what… it was worth it.  See you at one of his two Vancouver concerts.

Next: Black Eyed Peas and Ludacris.
