Dodie Stevens, Pink Shoelaces

Hi Red, we listen to your show on to and from church on Sundays. The other weekend you played Pink Shoelaces by Dodie Stevens. We were boppin’ in the car and really enjoyed Dodie’s clear crisp voice. Since then my eight year old daughter can’t get the tune or lyrics out of her head. Of course I helped her a bit by finding Dodie on YouTube:

It’s neat to see such a youngster groovin’ to the tunes of 1959, as if it was yesterday.

Cheers, Chris

Chris, I have always claimed that “our” music has a timeless feeling and your 8 year old has just proved it.

Incidentally, Carl Burns of Crystalette Records and I became friends. He gave me this disc the week leading up to New Year’s 1958/59.  I played it that night on my Platter Party show eight times.  Overnight it became a hit and other stations in Washington, Oregon and California picked up the cue. It sold a million copies and Carl gave me a gold record on behalf of the label. He also attended my wedding in 1963 here in Vancouver!
