Engelbert Humperdinck At The “Red”

It was a very special night at the Red Robinson Show Theatre with Engelbert Humperdinck. The balladeer won over the hearts of the ladies in the audience but the men enjoyed the hit songs that became famous through the 60’s and 70’s. He is called the “King of Romance” for a reason and his laid back presentation and good humor keeps the show percolating.

Engelbert has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1989 he was selected as Entertainer of the Year and that same year won a Golden Globe award. He and Tom Jones both shared the  same manager, Gordon Mills, who died at a very young age. He changed Arnold George Dorsey’s name to Engelbert and Tom Woodward’s name to Tom Jones.

Engelbert is the last of the great balladeers of that era of the 60s and 70s when in between rock and roll hits Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Dean Martin held sway with a multitude of hits.  All in all a most enjoyable evening.

This photo was taken in the dressing  room area of the Red Robinson Show Theatre (notice all the famous  autographs on the wall).

Steve Stenner
, stage manager at the theatre  took this photo of me onstage prior to the Engelbert concert.  I told  the audience that Engelbert was an exquisite dresser and after seeing  his wardrobe I was going to burn mine.
