George Thorogood, Kids In The Hall, Dana Carvey

What a week at the Red Robinson Show Theatre!

Wednesday and Thursday (May 14-15) George Thorogood and the Destroyers brought the house to its knees.  The all out rocker is a professional all the way.  It was interesting to see the band  just before going on stage gathering around backstage like a football team and wishing each other well in a circle and then using their hands together to slap each other good luck. This is one hell of a party band and the audience responded accordingly.

On May 16 the theatre was filled with fans of the now defunct, but not forgotten, Kids In The Hall television series. They are currently on a cross Canada tour.  Dave Foley from the television series NewsRadio (where he co-starred with the late Phil Hartman) was back with the gang.  Dave is no stranger to Vancouver as he is currently appearing in the locally shot series Robson Arms. They were a most cordial group and I hope they return soon.

Following on the heels of this comedic group was the appearance on May 17 of Dana Carvey.  Who can ever forget his impressions of former U.S. President George Bush Sr. and of course the infamous Church Lady? He also added many new impressions including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and others.  Near the end of Dana’s show  the lights suddenly went out in the theatre. True to his professionalism, Dana continued to entertain in the dark. It was hilarious. In a matter of minutes the lights came back on.  We found out later it was a local power outage.

Backstage in the Green Room later he mentioned that he loved the challenge of a thing like that. I asked him if what he said on stage about appearing on the Howard Stern satellite radio show was true?  He said, “yes it was.” Dana had referred to that interview where Howard Stern asked Dana the question “Haven’t you appeared in gay porno television shows before?” With a slight pause Dana answered, “Now I know where I first met you…” funnnneeee.  All in all a most entertaining week at the theatre.
