I had previously hosted a screening of Love Me Tender at Vancouver’s Capitol Theatre, so New Westminster’s Paramount Theatre invited me to host this showing. Imagine my surprise when I drove up and saw the marquee! It was a huge turnout for the showing of Elvis‘ first movie. This was 1956 and the girls in the audience were thrilled to see their hero on the big screen. After the movie I interviewed many of the girls and they said they didn’t enjoy the ending where Elvis died. He may have died onscreen but his career grew stronger after this movie.
