A “Red” October

October got off to a fast start at the Red Robinson Show Theatre. David Cassidy appeared on October 9 but was sick with flu. He decided that the show must go on so he went on stage and stayed for 90 minutes singing and playing. At times we thought he might pass out as the flu was causing him some distraction. He finished his show, was wrapped in a  blanket and was taken to his hotel room.  People had flown in from London and Brussels to see him perform and he told me he would not let them down. David showed a lot of courage.

The next  evening it was time for straight ahead rock and roll with Creedence Clearwater Revisited. The band puts on a great show and it is hard  to imagine how many great hit songs this group had. Hit after hit soared through the air of the theatre and they were brought back for two encores. Each time they appear here they pack the place. The  music is recreated the way it was originally intended. This is not a tribute group but contains two of the original members of the band.

On October 16 it was Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. This is real rock ’em sock ’em music from Mitch and the boys. He has lost none of the fervor and fire of his youth. His trademark hat and glasses makes you think of another artist who specializes in the blues, Van Morrison. No one was disappointed with this show but like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame slogan they did Play It Loud. Mitch has a book coming out with the working title Devils With A Blue Dress On or something like that. It should hit the shelves by December. I will give you the correct title when it is published.

Next  evening it was a reunion with Naturally 7. This group of unique acapella singers are something to behold. I remember over a  year ago when they were the opening act for Michael Bublé.  They brought GM Place to a halt with their vocal antics – hard to believe that one of the guys plays drums with his voice. The audience loved them and they loved being back in Vancouver, and said so.

All in all  a great month so far.
