Peter Noone, CCR Revisited At The “Red”

Peter Noone
of Herman’s Hermits fame returned to the Red Robinson Show Theatre recently. Peter never changes. He remembers those early days in his career when he toured North America as part of the British Invasion. He has fond memories of his many visits to Vancouver including appearing on Timmy’s Telethon and at EXPO 86. Peter is and always has been a gentleman. It seems fans never tire of his list of hits including I’m Henry The VIII, I Am; Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter and so many more.

In the photo, I am wearing my new sweater from A&W Restaurants (a hoodie already).

Talking about return visits, CCR Revisited returned to the “Red” and we added another interview for my weekly Global TV appearance Wednesday morning at 8:30 am. This time much of the interview reflected on the breakup of the band with John Fogerty going his own way and leaving the two originals to carry on. It sounded very much like the  breakup of Supertramp. In both cases the situation remains bitter.

Some Irish folks (plus one Welshman) enjoyed a St. Paddy’s Day breakfast at the Holiday Inn. Seated at the table are (left to right) Alyn Edwards (Vancouver Sun writer and former BCTV reporter – he’s the Welshman), myself, ace publicist Kevin McKeown, the always charming Dave Abbott and Mr. EXPO Patrick Reid.  A great time was had by all.

I had another birthday in the past week and all I can say is “Where in hell did the time go?” March was a bad month for illness for many of my peers. First it was the passing of Chuck Davis. Then Dave Abbott and Jerry Landa were in St. Paul’s for breathing problems. Word came forth that Dave McCormick was in hospital for stomach problems. Frosty Forst and I talked about it at the Chuck Davis memorial. The next day Frosty was rushed to hospital for heart surgery. Today it is reported that John Ashbridge, former CKNW newsman and the voice of the Canucks was in hospital due to heart problems and has had a pacemaker inserted in his chest. I can only add this: “growing old ain’t for sissies.”

Before I forget… congratulations to Jim Byrnes for winning a Juno for best blues album of the year and to Hedley for winning a Juno for best video of the year.
