Pointers, Rain at the “Red”

It was a busy week for me at the Red Robinson Show Theatre this past weekend: The Pointer Sisters were back in town and you couldn’t meet a friendlier trio anywhere. They loved our theatre and the crowd loved them getting the juices going with hits like Neutron Dance, Fire and Fairytale. They are as upbeat and passionate about their music as ever.

The next night it was Rain, the original Beatles tribute act. The group was formed before the Broadway show Beatlemania became a hit and the first cast was formed from the group. The band has changed members over the years but their sound is uncanny. This is one of the few groups that does justice to the early years with hits like She Loves You right through to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. They handle it all.

Not only are the voices great but their musicianship is superior to most tribute groups I have heard. They also effectively employ great “flashbacks” on the screens in the theatre. This adds to the feel of the Sixties and beyond. It was a real treat to have them here.
