Putting The “Rock” In “Red Rock Diner”

Thanks to Valerie Hill of the Hamilton Spectator for the write up on the show Red Rock Diner written by Dean Regan. The show opening should explain, but doesn’t, that in 1954 I started playing Rock and Roll on the radio in Vancouver. At the time the kids in Ontario listened to George “Hound Dog” Lorenz on WKBW in Buffalo. You could hear the odd Rock and Roll song on CKEY with disc jockey Keith Sandy, but that was in 1956. CHUM finally went to a Rock format in 1957. I am the only living deejay who emceed Bill Haley and the Comets, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley and the Beatles. I have photos and interviews with all of them. That’s why I was honoured by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Just wanted to set the Canadian record straight!
