Red Around Town: February 1

A very busy week: my article on Bryan Adams appeared in this week’s TVWeek magazine. I think you will find my interview of interest as it updates Bryan for 2009… the incomparable Etta James appeared at the Red Robinson Show Theatre. The lady entered the stage in a mobilized scooter and did the entire show from a specially designed seat. Her voice cannot reach the high notes of  yesteryear but she put on a wonderful show for her adoring fans. She still has that sharp sense of humor and she performed some of her earlier “bawdy” songs for the patrons. The crowd went crazy when she launched into her hit At Last, which at last count was featured on the soundtrack of at least 5 motion pictures. During this trip she was in no mood to have a “meet and greet” and allowed only one photo to be taken backstage. That is her prerogative. After all, she has been doing this thing her entire life… Great concert lineup for February at the Red Robinson Show Theatre: Ian Tyson February 6, Edgar Winter February 7, Brent Butt February 21, The B-52’s February 27, Little River Band February 28… at the River Rock Show Theatre: The Rankin Family February 6 and 7, Gladys Knight February 13, Chelsea Handler February 14, Blondie February 20,  Brazilian Carnaval February 21, George Noory & Guests February 28… at General Motors Place: The Harlem Globetrotters February 19, Brad Paisley February 24… at Richards On Richards: The Yardbirds February 22… On Super Bowl Sunday, my football pool got together at the “Red” for a party in the suite. We were not disappointed as it was the best Super Bowl I have seen in the past twenty years. I might also mention that there was a small pool set up for the game and I won it, to the consternation of the rest of the group… My friend for decades, Dave Lynds, is stepping down from his general manager’s job at Budget Car Sales. This delightful man has steered the ship since the doors first opened over 20 years ago. We wish him well in his retirement.
