Remembering Terry Black

I first saw Vancouver-born singer Terry Black when he appeared on CHAN-TV‘s Dance Party. Host Buddy Clyde had many contacts in L.A. and got him signed to Dunhill Records, the label for The Mamas and Papas, P.F. Sloan, and Barry McGuire. Terry had moderate success with 1964’s Unless You Care and 1972’s Goin’ Down (On The Road to L.A) with then wife Laurel Ward. They were also featured with the group Dr. Music for years.

This photo with Terry was taken at the Hyatt Regency in the early 90’s.

In recent times he had moved to Kamloops in the BC Interior, where he died from multiple sclerosis in 2009.

Terry Black was one of the first Vancouver based singers to have a major hit in the U.S. A more affable man you could not meet. He made his mark and left us too young.
