Rolf Harris Memories

These two emails follow on the heels of my Global BC television interview (above) with the director of the Rolf Harris documentary which aired on BBC December 20. Vikram Jayanti has two Academy Awards for his documentaries.  He won for When We Were Kings about Muhammad Ali. This morning I interviewed the noted director and showed footage of Rolf painting Her Majesty, the Queen. This morning’s feature also showed Rolf performing at Glastonbury last summer in front of 150,000 people.

Watched the Rolf Harris segment – I still have a 45 of his, “Vancouver Town”, that he would update on his annual trip to Vancouver. Decades ago I actually saved his huge mural (Wasserman and Harris dressed up like Captain Vancouver and crew member) that used to be on the side of The Ritz Hotel on Georgia near Thurlow. Was driving by when I saw a wrecking ball go through a corner – I asked the crew to crowbar it off the wall – the thing was painted onto plywood.

Great discussion on Rolf Harris. Here’s another story. Friends were at a Harris performance at The Cave the night someone went out on stage with a bulletin saying Pierre Trudeau just got married. Without missing a beat Harris said: “Wouldn’t that give you a blow on the nose. I always thought he was one of those.” Apparently the house exploded!
