In 1990 I brought Stan Freberg to Vancouver to speak to the Advertising Association. After his stellar career on Capitol Records he formed an advertising agency and he talked and showed some of his inventive commercials. His satirical approach to everything made him one of the most creative forces in the U.S. His short-lived CBS radio series ended in the Fifties. He hung up his microphone a year ago. He had been doing a public radio series on the U.S. network. After his appearance we joined him, his wife and son for dinner at the Pan Pacific Hotel.

He was a most engaging human being. I was amazed to learn that his father was a minister and that he grew up right across the border in Lynden, WA. Believe it or not, one of his biggest fans was Albert Einstein.

Stan Freberg gave us laughter and he gave us food for thought. He was a true pioneer and the fact that he came to Vancouver is a plus. Those who remember his appearance can only agree.
