Thomas At The WCRA This Weekend!

Who doesn’t love trains? My late grandfather was an engineer on CPR’s Vancouver Island lines at the turn of the century. His last steam engine – MacMillan Bloedel 1044 – is still on display in Chemainus today:

1044

Everybody’s favourite “steamie”, Thomas the Tank Engine returns to West Coast Railway Heritage Park for another fun family event this weekend, and the park is full of heritage railway rolling stock representing the major railways which have served our province – Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, Pacific Great Eastern, BC Electric and Great Northern.

Grandpa, like Thomas, had a difficult relationship with diesels. He once told me the new diesel locomotives were simply “steam engines that looked like boxcars”!

Click here for tickets. They’re still available for Sunday, Monday (Victoria Day) and next weekend. West Coast Railway Heritage Park is at 39645 Government Road in Squamish.
