Vancouver Radio Pros Meet

Nine years ago at the reception following the funeral service for the late Rick Honey, many broadcasters came up to me and said, “Why is it we only seem to get together as an industry when someone dies?”  This got me thinking and Carole, Michael Godin and I formed RPM (Radio Performers Membership) and began holding annual get-togethers.  This has grown to such an extent that we have a waiting list.  The most recent affair was held at the White Spot on Georgia at Cardero. White Spot president Warren Erhart dropped by and gave out $25 gift certificates to everyone present, a tremendous and unexpected bonus.

Special guests included Mel Zajac and wife Wendy who came to talk about the Zajac Ranch. Last year Carole and I sent a child with a disability to summer camp… in our minds one of the greatest things you can do for a child. Through generous donations $655 was raised. It takes a thousand dollars to send one child to camp so Carole and I will make up the difference.

An amazing total of 75 attended. Two good friends contributed above and beyond the call of duty, Dee Lippingwell who took this great photo and Jim Howe who provided us with a class “A”  PA system. Gord Lansdell was our Internet provider and kept track of the invitiations.  Arran Henn and Diana Tchakalian greeted everyone as they arrived. It is impossible to list everyone who came but here are a few names: Cam Cathcart, Cameron Bell, Larry Hennessey, Roy Hennessy, George Garrett, Jack Kyle, Jerry Landa, Julie Brown, Tom Jeffries, Jim Hault and the list goes on. The photo only shows some as it was taken as lunch ended and some had left early to return to work. We will repeat this in the fall. Thanks to one and all.
