Vancouver Radio Remembers Fred Latremouille

April 14 was a special day at the White Spot on Georgia Street for over 120 broadcasters. We came together to pay our respects to Fred Latremouille, who passed away in Phoenix last month at 69. This was our largest turnout since we held our first RPM (Radio Professionals Membership) meeting 12 years ago.

The room was filled with familiar voices from today and yesterday. You could spot Jon McComb, Jim Robson, Frosty Forst and Wayne Cox in one corner and Bill Good and Fanny Kiefer in another area of the restaurant. That’s just a sample of those present.

Thanks to longtime RPM member and photographer Dave Roughan for capturing the event with his camera. You can see Dave’s album here.

The program began with a brief video on Fred’s career which was lovingly produced by Jim Morrison:

We opened with a “welcome”, then Gord Lansdell and Joanna Mileos read the names of our fellow broadcasters who passed away in the past six months. Then it was time to pay our respects to Fred. Speakers included Doc Harris, Bill Reiter, Miles Ramsay, Tom Jeffries and Wayne Cox. At the conclusion of the poignant and fun-filled speeches Wayne read a wonderful note from Fred’s widow Cathy.

We played some of Fred’s most memorable commercials:

And one of his hilarious C-FUN Wake-Up Calls:

We all agreed Fred Latremouille was an outstanding and versatile talent. Fred left his imprint on Vancouver and will not be soon forgotten. The overwhelming demand for seats at the presentation showed exactly how this man was respected by so many in the broadcast business.

RIP, my friend.
