Vancouver’s Star Walk gets an upgrade!

October 6 saw the first installation of brand new plaques for the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame on the Star Walk along Vancouver’s Granville Street. This initiative recognizes British Columbians who have made an outstanding contribution to our entertainment industry in Vancouver, across Canada and around the world.

Each year the nominating committee selects a handful of deserving artists to be inducted into the hall. The total entertainment scene is covered with stars for each discipline including theatre, film, radio, television music and variety. Each chosen star has their particular discipline represented on the brass plaques. For a complete list of members check the Starwalk icon on the Orpheum website.

What made this ceremony so interesting was the fact that these hardy new brass plaques were shipped here from a foundry in Edmonton. Somewhere along the way a box went missing. At the ceremony the first plaque to be unveiled was to be that of Maestro Dal Richards. Instead it was my plaque! B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame president Elizabeth Ball insisted that the ceremony should proceed anyway.

In the coming months all new brass plaques will be installed to replace the previous stars that were damaged during the refurbishing of Granville Street. This is something Vancouver can be proud of. Look for your favorite whether it is Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Michael Bublé, Randy Bachman, Frosty Forst, Terry Jacks, and many more.
