A couple of nice letters…

Dear Mr. Robinson:

Recently, like many others, I had the opportunity of reading the article on the past half century of your life and it brought back a great deal of memories.

To quote a few of the statements or, partial statements, “No story on Red Robinson would be complete” or to be more accurate could EVER be complete for, as long as there is music and the people that make it, the name Red Robinson will always be synonimous with it.  “A fixture in Vancouver media for over half a century” , “the man who brought rock ‘n’ roll to the city’s airwaves”.  Just as Alan Freed was a pioneer in one part of the country, you were, indeed a pioneer here in Vancouver.  I was born in this city and grew up with the music of the 50’s and 60’s.   There was never a time when one could not hear the songs without coupling the name Red Robinson with some of the finest and most memorable music of our time.

In the years to follow, we had R&B, Motown, Disco and so on and, always the name of Red Robinson came to mind.  Approximately a year ago, you also gave me the opportunity of donating a great deal of music to your museum, an honour I would always be proud of and, although to this point, unfortunately I have not seen the museum, I am looking forward to the opportunity.

Again, you are part of the history of Vancouver and you brought, to us memories and the joy of music that we will carry through the years to come.

Congratulations Mr. Robinson!

Hi Red,

It’s been a long time since I sent you an email (and yes, many thanks for reading out my last email on your show – it definitely caught me by surprise). But my email-break doesn’t mean I wasn’t religiously tuning in to your show every Saturday night. Your selection of songs and entertainment skills by far make your show the best show in town.

All my friends are, by now, fans of your show as well – albeit most of them are, like myself, still in their mid-twenties. But good songs are what they are – good songs, and they appeal to all age groups alike.

And haha, my dad (who currently is still in Austria), will welcome the news that Vinyl is again constituting most of the record sales… at least as far as Neptune records is concerned 😉

My dad always was biased toward vinyl, kept mainly buying vinyl – justifying it by mentioning the quality of sound, the amount of sound information stored on vinyl, and the longevity of vinyl, compared to CDs… and I guess he is right … how many of his LPs are scratched compared to my CDs?

In any case, I wish you a wonderful long weekend, and thanks again for the great show…

Best
