Another Birthday, Red’s Reunion Rolls On

Today, March 30, I celebrate my 75th year on this planet. I didn’t want a fuss over my birthday, but  a most pleasant surprise happened on Global TV Morning News. When I finished my Red’s Reunion salute to Juno nominees, host Steve Darling wished me a happy birthday and out stepped Bruce Allen, Red Robinson Show Theatre manager Steve Stenner and producer Corby Coffin, who spent the past 5½ years putting together my weekly segments.

All of this was a complete surprise. A tip of the hat to Sophie Lui for coming in on her day off. She is a special lady. We were overwhelmed when a 50 pound cake was delivered on the set decorated with juke boxes, dancers and discs all made of icing.I was thrilled with the thought. The cake was outstanding and made from scratch. It took two men to help me put it in the car and take it to my office in downtown Vancouver! I placed it in the lobby and invited everyone in the building to take a slice. All in all a wonderful morning.

This was my final weekly edition of Red’s Reunion. I’ll be presenting two mini-documentaries a month on Global Morning News highlighting entertainment sites in our city and giving a historic background. These will be augmented with special occasion shows such as Vancouver’s first rock and roll concert with Bill Haley and his Comets. Thanks for your support over the decades.
