Ian Tyson at the “Red”

Ian Tyson came to the theatre they named after me and sang some of his classic hits such as Four Strong Winds and Lovin’ Sound. Ian’s voice sounds strained and truth be known he may never get it back. It was a disappointment to many in attendance but their respect for him and his talent remained strong. He is still the down-to-earth guy he has always been with no pretentions.  We talked about his brief participation in 1956 playing guitar with one of Canada’s first rock and roll bands, The Senstational Stripes. He moved to Alberta and the rest is history. We had fun recalling our teenage days and the roots of rock and roll and rockabilly music. Ian Tyson is truly a Canadian icon.
