Remembering Jim Lowe And The Green Door

My book Red Robinson: The Last Deejay talks about the end of an era. Now some of the legends in the radio world are themselves coming to an end. Just this past week WCBS/WNEW/WNBC New York deejay Jim Lowe passed away at 93. Jim is better known for the multi million seller Green Door, which knocked Elvis out of Billboard’s #1 spot. I had the pleasure of pressing the 150,000th copy while visiting Toronto in 1956 to appear on Cross Canada Hit Parade.  Jim’s Canadian label, Reo Records, drove me to the pressing plant to do the honours. The memory lingers on.
