Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductions

Carole and I just returned from the 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions in Cleveland.

It was a rockin’ weekend! A cast of stars put on a high energy show. Green Day opened the main event and the show continued to almost 1 am with a lineup that included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, The Faces, The Beastie Boys, and more. Carole King inducted Don Kirshner, who created The Monkees and the Archies, and hosted Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert. He died in 2011. The late Laura Nyro was inducted posthumously by Bette Midler, and blues guitar great Freddie King was also honored.

Next time you visit the Rock Hall be sure to check out Dedicated To The One I Love, a section devoted to the deejays who helped rock and roll grow and prosper. Here’s part of my contribution:

Axl Rose and Guns N’ Roses were inducted, but Axl was a no-show. Also on hand were members of some of the great rock bands that backed major performers: Gene Vincent’s Blue Caps, Hank Ballard’s Midnighters, Smokey Robinson’s Miracles, Bill Haley’s Comets, Buddy Holly’s Crickets, and James Brown’s Famous Flames. Surviving members of each group were inducted by Smokey Robinson.

Attending the ceremonies in Cleveland: Michael J. Fox, ZZ Top, George Benson, Alice Cooper, and the incredible Darlene Love, who sang the Carole King classic Will You Love Me Tomorrow? LL Cool J was on hand to induct the Beastie Boys, and Chris Rock came to present the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All in all a fabulous weekend of non-stop rock and roll that continued on at the House of Blues until 3 am!
