The Crickets in Vancouver, 1962

In 1962 I was program director at C-FUN Radio and had my own show on the station from 6 to 10 pm. After each show I would see who was in town and visit with them. On this particular occasion Les Vogt and I had booked the Crickets for a series of appearances in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

This is an historic photo. The Crickets had revived their careers with Jerry Naylor as lead singer after the unfortunate death of Buddy Holly. They were a pleasure to work with.

From left to right: keyboardist Glenn D. Hardin, who went on to become an integral part of Elvis’ band; Sonny Curtis, who wrote many hits including I Fought The Law and the theme song for the Mary Tyler Moore Show; next to me is Jerry Naylor and next to him is drummer and Buddy Holly’s friend Jerry Allison. Allison and Holly were the major part of the early years of Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

Les and I took them backstage at the Cave Theatre Restaurant to meet the McGuire Sisters. I am so glad I took a photographer with me over the years.
