Just in time for Hallowe’en, the British Invasion group The Zombies came to the River Rock Show Theatre. These original band members are still together after all these years and sounding better than ever. Their hits in North America include She’s Not There, Tell Her No and Time of the Season. The Zombies appeared as the first British group on the NBC-TV series Hullabaloo and the audience went wild. Some groups lose it over the years but not these guys. I am holding their latest CD Breathe Out Breathe In. Great material.
The Strawbs never really enjoyed the success of so many who came out of Britain in the Sixties and Seventies. The band was formed in 1964. They toured with Supertramp in their Crime of the Century tour. The group sings in almost perfect harmony. Originally known as the Strawberry Hill Boys, their longtime guitarist and singer is Dave Cousins, who not only performs but writes many of their songs. Record collectors are always on the lookout for their original disc Strawberry Music Sampler #1. According to the 2001 CD reissue, only 99 copies of the original vinyl LP were ever pressed, making it among the most coveted albums in history. Dave told me he figured the name Strawbs most likely did not help their success as most North Americans did not get the connection. Dave Cousins is a warm and wonderful man.
