In December 2006 the people of Courtenay honoured me with an induction into the Comox Valley Walk of Achievement. They placed my name on the sidewalk on the town’s main street.
A few months ago they asked me if I would be the Grand Marshal in the annual July 1 Canada Day parade. I am looking forward to the trip. Even though I left the area when I was six, I spent most summers at my Uncle and Aunt’s heritage farm just south of Fanny Bay until I was 15. I am so familiar with this part of Vancouver Island and have happy memories. Returning to the town of Courtenay will be a trip down memory lane. Many relatives on my mother’s side of the family lived there for decades, and I still have some cousins in the area. It will truly be a happy day for me and Carole.
