Back When Batman Was FUN

Back in the halcyon days of radio and #1 C-FUN we tried to keep on top of all things in the pop world.  When Batman became a monster TV series, C-FUN’s promotion department went into overdrive. We decided that all superheroes deserved attention, so we created a contest with great prizes for anyone sending in their old comic books. This resulted in a flood of comics… so many we posted them in the large studio at the station. Jolly John Tanner displays a set of comic books while Al Jordan and Tom Peacock read their favourites.

The second photo shows me standing by John Tanner decked out in his Batman outfit. You can see how tall John is (or how I stood at only 5’11”). When the full length Batman movie came out we were there with John and the Batmobile. We promoted the movie and went to the opening in Vancouver and at the Westminster Drive-In. John seemed to love playing Batman. I wonder what he thinks of the serious Batman of today? This Batman was of course a “camp” send-up of the superhero. God we had fun!
