CKWX Goes Red, 1957

Boy was I young once. This photo is taken in the main studio at CKWX on Burrard Street in Vancouver. All that clutter you see in the room is the way we did radio shows with reminders everywhere. I was truly excited to be the afternoon (Teen Canteen) and late evening (Platter Party) host.

I left CJOR for CKWX because the station was going to be the Giant of the West with 50,000 watts. That allowed me to travel all over the province of BC carrying the message that Rock and Roll was here to stay in a big way. It’s also worth noting that I worked both shows six days a week. Who needed Hollywood or New York when you were a radio king in your own home town? At least that is how I felt about it.
