Dean Martin, “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”

Hope you’re not too tired from decking the halls to enjoy today’s “Red’s Animated Advent Calendar” a series of animated YouTube videos celebrating the holiday season.

Today, it’s Dean Martin and the festive classic “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”, created by our friends at Fantoons Animation Studio for Universal Music Group.

“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” was written in July 1945 in Hollywood — during a heat wave! Despite no mention of Christmas anywhere in the song, it’s become a seasonal favourite. Dean’s Rat Pack buddy Frank Sinatra released a version in 1950, and Dean’s 1959 rendition was part of his album “A Winter Romance”.

In most of Canada snow is a natural part of Christmas, but here in Vancouver it’s a nightmare: a couple of inches is enough to cause traffic chaos. So we say “sure, let it snow… just not on the bridges!” Next time you hear the lyrics “Oh, the weather outside is frightful…” take a moment to remember those Vancouver drivers hoping to get home on time, and tip your hat to the hard-working men and women at Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting for their help!
