Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen In Vancouver

I place Paul McCartney‘s appearance in our town among the top five concerts I have seen in my career. Carole and I enjoyed every minute of the show. He is such a professional and it was all about the music. Paul could have played for another six hours just to cover the material in his songbook and in his career. I found it fascinating that he never once stopped to have a drink of water. What stamina!

A young couple was sitting next to Carole and he was peppering her with questions throughout the show. It wasn’t until Monday that we realized Dylan Toigo worked at The Province!

Bruce Springsteen didn’t make his rumored appearance, but it was great to see the Delta Police Pipe Band accompanying Sir Paul on Mull of Kintyre:

Springsteen put on a great show the next night at Rogers Arena. He is still one exciting performer, moving around the stage like a Bengal tiger. I have always felt that Bruce’s music is a cross between rock and roll and traditional folk-protest. He is the working man’s rocker! At 63 he moves and sings like someone half his age and the E Street Band is more powerful than ever.

I loved it when Bruce crowd surfed. He put a lot of trust in the fans slowly pushing him towards the stage. It was another blue ribbon night for the Boss. He obviously likes our town and the audience in turn shows its love for the singer. I guess it is a generational thing but I found many of the songs in his new set a little too negative. If you listen to the words they are more than cynical. Bruce Springsteen is one of the truly great rock and rollers and a great showman.
