B.C. Premier Bill Bennett was decisive, and could appear cold, but in fact he was a true leader. As Jim Pattison said at his memorial, “He was a strong leader in a strong province. He didn’t bend for political convenience. He never sought the limelight. He walked the talk and he worked hard.”
I knew the late premier and worked with the Social Credit party to help him get elected. I can remember doing a phone interview with him one morning while he was jogging around Stanley Park. He was always active.
I also had the honour of emceeing his various fundraising dinners. What a man, what a legacy. My advertising business partner Steve Vrlak and I have fond memories of our late Premier. He was one in a million.
