Singer Leon Bibb has died at 93. A few years ago I interviewed Leon for Global TV and we talked about his history in show business in the U.S. He was in the original production of Annie Get Your Gun in the 1940’s. In 1966 he received a Tony nomination for his work in the production of A Hand Is On The Gate. He appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show nine times.
Leon was taking a break from New York but once here in Vancouver he decided to stay. He spent many years living in Kitsilano and starred in the successful and long running Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris. Leon was loved by many and cherished by the arts community. I was present for a Black History Month show at St. Andrew’s Wesley Church where he performed a spiritual. He brought the house down as he always did. Goodbye Leon… and thanks for the memories.
