Ted Reynolds dies, Garry Raible retires

It was the best of times in radio and television. Back in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s Vancouver enjoyed a myriad of radio, television and print personalities… unlike today when a citizen is hard pressed to name 12 major personalities in our town from media. He covered it all in his long and illustrious career, now Ted Reynolds, a mainstay on CBC sports is gone. His passing marks the end of a particularly great time in media and in media sports. He was one of the best. During the same few days that I heard Ted had died I recognized that another sports announcer was leaving radio for retirement in the Okanagan. Garry Raible’s last day on the air was April 30th. There was a small gathering at the station to bid him a fond farewell. As Bob Dylan said, “The times they are a-changin’”.
